Screenshots of a Windows 8 Music Program are Leaked

A few days ago Microsoft revealed some details about its upcoming Windows 8 app store. It will use the same marketing model as Apple 30% cut for Microsoft, and a 70% cut for developers.

A feature that is unlike Apple is that it also allows for open source apps to be distributed in the store. A developer can submit their open source apps into the Windows 8 App store as long as the apps do not violate the Standard Application Licensing Terms.

This allows for popular open source  apps, such as the GIMP photo editing software and the VLC Media player, to be distributed in the Windows 8 app store. Of course, these terms are subject to change as this is only the pre-release version of the app store and anything can happen.

But what I'm about to talk to you about is not open source apps on the Windows 8 app store, it's a lot cooler than that (or at least I think so.) Winunleaked.tk has somehow gotten a hold of some interesting screenshots of what seems to be a Windows 8 Music app.

I've used WinUnleaked before for info such as screenshots before, and I have no idea how they pull these off, but everything seems legitimate.

The screenshots are in another language though, French if I'm correct, so unless you read French, you won't be able to understand everything, but you will get the general idea.

The first one basically shows a list of applications, but in the bottom right hand corner, you can see a tile that says, "Store: Music Was Installed." The second tile down in the first row is also a music app. This could get interesting....

The second screenshot shows what seems to be a new metro style download manager for the Windows 8 Store. There is a weather app that seems to be downloading. There is just a white background in this picture. I wonder if they did that on purpose, or if they'll change it to something more interesting later.

Hours after these pictures were posted, WinUnleaked posted some more pictures detailing this new Windows 8 Music Metro App. The first screenshot is just a Metro splash screen for the app.

The second one proves to be a bit more interesting than that. It is what looks like the first part of the Music app that you see. The main menu basically. At first glance, when I saw the panel that says "Find Music" I thought, "Oh no, Microsoft is trying to release another music store!"

But thankfully, that is not the case. From what it looks like, it is just a media player for your music. Under the "Find Music" title it says "Find and play music from a folder, device, or another location." So for now this app seems more like a version of iTunes for Windows.

The final screnshot shows a split screen of Internet Explorer 10 with a web browser open, and the music player playing a song right next to it.

So this confirms my theory that this is just a music player. Well I am very anxious for a Windows 8 media player. Because, after all, Windows Media Player pretty much sucks with music. I only use it to watch some movies sometimes, but never music.
